Concerts4cures.org was started over 3 years ago in USA with a charity called drumSTRONG.org. Drum Strong is a US registered non-profit charity organization who have an annual drumathon in Charlotte, NC every May where they set a Guinness World Record each year for the longest continuous drum circle (last year was 30 hours!).
There are several cities around the world who do simulcast internet streams to join with the main event in Charlotte, they work with Drum Strong to hold charity concerts to help local children who are battling cancer through their Pediatric Percussion Program. PPP brings music to children's cancer unit's around the US and C4C was started with a goal of raising funds to purchase instruments and get instruction for those children.
C4C aligned with The Teenage Cancer Trust (Roger Daultry's charity) to put on shows in different cities to raise funds for TCT music programs at TCT children's cancer units in those cities. TCT is one of the biggest children's charities in the UK and have a fabulous reputation for the work they do for children with cancer including their star studded week of shows each March at the Royal Albert Hall.
C4C has done shows for TCT in Liverpool to support the Alder Hey Children's Hospital's 'Imagine' program for music and arts and also shows around London to support The Royal Marsden Children's Hospital and the TCT's Southeast Music Program. This year they will have shows in London, Liverpool, Leeds, Brighton, Nottingham, and this one in Birmingham.
Their goal is to get funding to put on big shows that make big money for the music programs but for now are making whatever they can for local children's hospitals in the towns that host the show. In Birmingham the money would go to the Birmingham Children's Hospital's TCT units music program.
