Alunah Solennial Review | Long Live Rock n Roll (IT)

28/3/2017

Comments

“It brought the news of Autumn’s death and Winter came with its last breath”. “See the beauty in life and death, light a torch”… Una chitarra claustrofobica introduce THE RECKONING OF TIME.
“wild berries will very soon, begin new life amongst my bones”.

wow…

Dagheisha Alunah Review (it) | Awakening the Forest

The British do center on the third shot and made one of the purest and most intriguing doom album of recent years. To do so, they started from a passion for reality close to them as Black Sabbath and Witchfinder General making major efforts in terms of personality. Impossible not to draw parallels with Cathedral, and Purson Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats if only for the audience and the hypothetical market in which the aim is to place the full length.

The band had in fact already highlighted in 'Call Of Avernus', who had got a great response at the level of the reviews but apparently not enough to elevate the state underground. The subsequent 'White Hoarhound' had rather less convinced, and perhaps, in hindsight, was the transition needed to achieve their goals. Now we are in the presence of six tracks clean, refined in detail and equipped with an evocative power out of the ordinary.

The guitar work is exceptional bluntly, you will not find a single note out of place and the voice of Sophie Day illuminates the catacomb-like atmospheres that support 'Bricket Wood Coven' and 'Heavy Bough'. Followed by the title track which appears as the song most associated with the past, while 'The Mask Of Herne' and 'The Summerland' are the symbol of evolution are able to put in serious difficulty competition. The hope is that the promotion of Napalm can push away the Alunah. If you deserve it seriously.

Metallus Alunah Review (it) | Awakening the Forest

"Awakening The Forest" is the third studio album by the British Alunah , a band that has built its sound reverberations between psychedelic doom metal and the granite that evokes, without trample too, the ghost of Black Sabbath .

The four-piece from Birmingham with the new work confirms its ideal size, building of long tracks and tones lysergic where much counts performed. The guitar work of David and Sophie Day , along with the rhythm section and slow muscle of Jake Mason (drums) and Dan Burchmore (bass), constitute the essence of the songs, alternating moments of granite in an acid psychedelia that looks convinced to the 70s. This is how the episodes of the platter (we are particularly representative of the opener "Bricket Wood Coven" and the title track) are directed towards the tunnel at times elusive and kaleidoscopic, where the listener literally gets lost.

We said that music is the impact that overwhelming, but it is really effective voice of Sophie, who intervenes with his tone grim and powerful as if it were an instrument, only and only when the pieces require it, to then leave ample space the overlap of the melodies smoky. "Awakening The Forest" flowing very well and therefore highlights the quality of a band that probably does not invent anything on the practical side but it has a competitive sogwriting which may in fact make an interesting discovery for fans of the genre, who will enjoy this work due to the increased visibility offered to the group by the recent deal with Napalm Records .

Distorsioni (it) Review White Hoarhound by Alunah

Big thanks to Ricardo Martillos for his review on Italy's Distorsioni website! This has been translated courtesy of Google...

"Very impressive rebirth of stoner rock in recent times. A style of music that was born in the end yes with Kyuss and the like but heavily sinks its roots much further back, in two fundamental bands and historical as Black Sabbath and Blue Cheer. The taste for the occult and the esoteric of many groups who followed those paths are served in my opinion more to confuse the listener and imagine who knows what mysteries than anything else, the music in any case, links them to the past and this is what that interests us. The Alunah come from Birmingham, not coincidentally also the starting point of Black Sabbath, and they retrace the footsteps, or at least the intention is. Unlike their glorious masters do not have a frontman Ozzy Osbourne as crazy but at least the blonde singer and guitarist Soph Day has un'ugola enough to support and maneuver the heavy arsenal put on by his companions in adventure, Dave Day, guitar, Gaz Imber on bass and Jake Mason on drums. After you have made a considerable reputation as a live act torrential have finally decided to send in the studio all the grit discharged on stage.

Two records in the 2012, at a distance of a few months, the debut already arsonist of "Call of the Avernus" , however conceived two years earlier and the latter " White Hoarhound " consecrate them among the brightest lights of doom-scene stoner. Right from the initial torque Demeter's grief and White Hoarhound, we are immersed in the river of lava called Alunah, beautiful voice Soph, the irresistible title track, the guitars sound dark and heavy, Kyuss meanwhile peep around the corner.Compared to the great sons of the desert boys Birmingham have their greater expansion of songs and more space while remaining dedicated to flames guitar solos kept to a minimum as it is typical of the genre. Proof of this the three long tracks, Belial's fjord , The Chester midsummer watch parade and Oak Ritual II, torrid final with a superb David Day at the six-string, 25 minutes total for all three tracks, excellent business presentation to a live performance I imagine expanded dramatically. Disc of great emotional impact, will please the fans of the genre psycho-doom but also a great opportunity for new members to approach music in a continent still boiling lava."

Aristocrazia Webzine (it) Review Alunah's White Hoarhound

3/12/2012

Cheers to Aristocrazia Webzine for their review, this is translated from Italian...

"The first CD of Alunah, entitled "Call Of Avernus," came into my hands after a very bad end, in fact, the Italian Post pressarono, triturarono, maybe we played football, who knows, the fact is that what I heard was a kind of mush and so I defined at the time of review, so small evil force me to use the mp3 to listen to this work.

It's been two years since that output and the group aims to bring me back watering mouth with the second birth "White Hoarhound" and the great thing is that he has succeeded.

The band has kept the same line-up with Sophie Day on the mic, Jake Mason and Gaz Imber on drums and bass respectively, the latter plays also in general, other reality English to watch, and David Day of guitarist. As it is stable in shape, so is the composition, in fact, the new album does not depart in an apparent from the proffered in recent past, but consolidates and provides proof of the good feeling that the pieces of the debut had left.

The main difference, whether negative or positive then you who will decide, there is the prolonged listening album.
If the first Chapter went smoothly and wrap by its nature very instinctive character, needless to say, both live and demonstrate that they are "children of others," but with great relish choices applied in the songwriting, the platter today is the maturation and evolution would call obvious, perhaps the most plausible, with a return to the band prominent doom as the main reference.

'Ill notice this pleasant refuge in the territory in more than one occasion, on the other hand, however, lose some 'charm due to a charge less disruptive and that seems to refuse to dig furrows monolithic red-hot and so dear to Electric Wizard encountered prior to their sound. Now speak of "White Hourhound" as you would a hard or too bad it is not even remotely conceivable, here the pieces we are all right, the title track and the subsequent "Belial's Fjord" are lovely, the dynamics very well prepared and with a Soph much over the top. Singer has mastered and above all conviction of their own means, is much fuller, consisting of his trial and it is felt especially in these passages from the emotional so fluctuating in which it is free to provide your own fingerprint.

I do not know who breathe air in Birmingham or at least in England in general, is a fact that is quite complicated, I do not say it is impossible, find an act from the land of Albion that sounds like this is completely wrong and an album is in their DNA, and as I reflect continued to slide and backflushes tracks.

How could I say that songs such as "The Offering" and "Oak Ritual II "are not included in my listening? I'd be lying, they will also now firmly anchored in certain clichés occur in a large release, despite what they sound great.

Another point in favor of the combo is the ability to write real songs, in fact I happened to notice a feature not strange but became a regular guest, perhaps too much, in this world. During the latter period in particular is greatly taking advantage of the loophole in the extended jam sessions, sometimes even dramatically, in some cases to cover the lack of 'ideas for things to pack a real song form. 's not that I mind let me carry episodes from "totally free", but I do not want to become a sort of paraculata intended to carry out some kind of wacky artistic vision. jamming is wonderful for those who play and often unique experience for those who receive the benefits and that is why it can not be reduced to a use of the "giriamoci continuously around and use the psychedelic", thought fit to divert attention to a lack of papabile ' ideas.

Alunah The fortunately do not leave anything to chance and the instrumental ensemble arises always bringing positive results to which must be added the value of the fine mixing of Greg Chandler, who was also responsible for the "Call of Avernus", and work in terms of mastering Tony Reed (St. Vitus and Trippy Wicked).
vs. Instinct Maturity? What is the third production of the final bang? Of course we will be ready to receive it, we will continue to follow the Alunah of which recommend purchasing all the worshipers of stoner / doom, music so it's always nice ritrovarserla at home"

Metal Wave (it) Review White Hoarhound by Alunah

22/10/2012

(Translated from Italian)

I had not yet happened to run into a doom metal band with female singer and I have to admit that it is a pleasant discovery. The four components are Alunah from Midlands, United Kingdom, and the latter work, "White Hoarhound" is their second album, the first for PsycheDOOMelic Record. Seven tracks for a release that deserves careful listening, in which the atmosphere proposals do not give the listener never excessive and redundant heavy doom.
It happens however that the slow rhythmic and instrumental minimalism is offset by a surprising counterpoint voice. The female voice is definitely a big plus, personality and well adapted to the environment even though it is far from gloomy, but rather powerful and vital. Reverbs and reverse shots blur the edges of an otherwise very decided tone.
I loved the sound of guitars, distorted and dark so that the sound does not be too overwhelming when placed next to an item so energetic. In addition, devices such as solos, rhythms and sped to the synth sound carpets help to dampen the linearity of the slow metal without distorting it. As well as tracks like "Oak Ritual I" represent a moment of breath tight in the mood of the disc, especially appreciated for the office introspective, to which the item was accompanied by the unique sound of clean guitar and keyboard arrangements of the background.

I wonder what influences may suffer most, but I feel obliged to secure the passage by his fellow Black Sabbath, of course, for the lesson of "Paranoid". Mix well the instrumental parts and those sung, the Alunah then reach a result very homogeneous, dare I say almost recognizable style. And I think that smart is the most important result of our English.
